Water Shoes for Ultralight Float Tube Fishing

Water Shoes for Ultralight Float Tube Fishing

Many boots for wading streams weigh several pounds!  The Sims boots pictured below weigh 4 pounds 1 oz per pair. They're heavier than any float tube made by Wilderness Lite!

Unsuitable as a hiking boot, stream wading boots just add a lot of unnecessary weight and bulk that must be carried into the wilderness in your backpack. Ultralight water shoes are the perfect option. Pounds lighter than boots, they fulfill all your needs for ultralight float tube fishing. They protect the booties of your stocking foot waders when walking on shoreline rocks going to/from your float tube. Water shoes are ultralight, easily fit inside or hooked on the outside of your backpack, and are relatively quick drying.

Fins straps are quickly and easily applied over water shoes for a secure, tight fit.

These are the 13.7 oz (per pair!) O'Neill superfreak tropical RT (round toe) water shoes. After several years of float tubing use, they are proven quite durable. They are used by all our Wilderness Lite team as the lightest water shoes we've found to date. Purchase water shoes a couple sizes larger than your street shoes to ensure they fit over the bulky neoprene booties of stocking foot waders. If given the option, be certain to select round toe water shoes, NOT ST/split toe which won't fit over your wader booties. There are many other water shoes available at a range of prices that will certainly work well, but we recommend you target a total weight of no greater than 1 pound per pair for your water shoes to minimize weight in your day pack or backpack.
